Taco Seasoning

Today is Monday, perfect time to prep ahead some taco seasoning mix for taco Tuesday! Store bought taco seasoning is fine but make your own for a real fiesta in your mouth.

Simple, just combine ingredients in a bowl. Transfer to air tight container for storage if you don’t use it all.

1 Tbsp smoked paprika

2 tsp garlic powder

2 tsp cayenne

1 Tbsp cumin

1 and 1/2 tsp black pepper

2 tsp kosher or sea salt

1/4 C corn starch

Use 3 Tbsp or so for a pound of meat. This will make about 3 lbs of taco meat and stores well for a week or two before it starts to lose flavor.

Changes, substitutions, additions

  1. If you like spicier, I would double the cayenne (4 tsp total) but with kids or large gatherings it’s easier to adjust individual tacos with hot sauce or salsa

  2. For chicken tacos, I would add 1 and 1/2 tsp poultry seasoning

  3. For a more complex flavor consider 1 tsp Mexican oregano and 1/2 tsp coriander

  4. This recipe is easily doubled for future use or for larger parties
